Connecting communities is the goal of Sister Cities around the world.
The Portland-Mutare sister City Association (PMSCA) is one of 11 Sister Cities in Portland, Oregon and the only African Sister City connecting cultural, educational, business and in the case of PMSCA, humanitarian efforts with cities around the globe.
As a non-profit organization, PMSCA works to promote good will and the exchange of ideas, goods, culture and friendship between the people of Portland, Oregon and Mutare, Zimbabwe. We strive to learn from our differences, celebrate our similarities and nurture our interconnectedness.
“As long as there is poverty in the world, I can never be rich, even if I have a billion dollars. As long as diseases are rampant and millions of people in this world cannot expect to live more than twenty-eight or thirty years, I can never be totally healthy…….I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be. This is the way our world is made. No individual or nation can stand out boasting of being independent. We are interdependent.”
-- Martin Luther King Jr.
