
World AIDS Day Benefit, December 1 2008 – Words and Rhythms for Life!
Please join us for our annual World AIDS Day Benefit on December 1st at the Tiffany Center. We are partnering with the Portland Area Global AIDS Coalition to highlight the World AIDS Day theme of Leadership and Keeping the Promise! The event will start with a free lecture by the new Executive Director of the Cascade AIDS Project, Michael Kaplan and a wonderful Action Fair. Our benefit will follow with light refreshments and a presentation by Mayor Tom Potter and local Portland students highlighting their recent trip to Mutare, Zimbabwe! Mayor Tom Potter heads to Zimbabwe with City Delegation in 2008!
The City of Portland Mayor’s Office partnered with the Portland – Mutare Sister City Association to send a humanitarian delegation to Zimbabwe in October 2008. The delegation will renew the sister city relationship, bring attention to global health issues Zimbabwe’s challenges, and Portland’s response. This historic event marks the first time a Portland Mayor will visit our sister city since the establishment of the relationship in 1991. He will join a delegation of 18 others including local Portland middle and high school students, teachers, health care workers, and dedicated volunteers.
